Cecily Jane Harris

These are cookies, not feces. "Family home evening is for everyone. It is for families with parents and children, for families with just one parent, and for parents who have no children at home. It is for home evening groups of single adults and for those who live alone or with roommates. . . . Regular participation in family home evening will develop increased personal worth, family unity, love for our fellow men, and trust in our Father in heaven."

(Family Home Evening, 1976 — Spencer W. Kimball, N. Eldon Tanner, and Marion G. Romney)

"Well-planned family home evenings can be a source of long-lasting joy and influence. These evenings are times for group activity, for organizing, for the expressions of love, for the bearing of testimony, for learning gospel principles, for family fun and recreation, and of all things, for family unity and solidarity."

(Family Home Evenings, 1970-71, p. v — Joseph Fielding Smith, Harold B. Lee, and N. Eldon Tanner)

Meet your family.

This page will be regularly updated with our FHE assignments and calendar. This week, you can read what Mama Cecily thinks about FHE. And if you really want to, you can read it again next week.

Our group consists of apartments 109, 212, and 230. We meet every Monday at 7:30. Our parents are Cecily and Rob. Feel free to contact them if you have any questions, problems, or ice cream.

Vital Definitions:

  • Activity (n.) An engaging, entertaining, and interactive way to spend sixty-to-ninety minutes that will help us grow closer as a family and feel like we actually belong here. Classic FHE it's-my-turn-to-plan-but-I-could-care-less activities, such as those that are or even slightly resemble Signs, are expressly forbidden. Suggested activities are: scripture cake (ask Cecily), favorite movie clips, Museum of Art, bonfire, park activities, Killer Bunnies (ask Cecily), dollar theater, water baseball (ask Rob), swimming, etc. Those that are asked to amaze the family with an activity are required to give a care and provide a location, such as their current dwelling. We love other families and Cecily and Rob will arrange a combined activity upon request.
  • Lesson (v.) As in, "Lesson us!" One is to take a lesson assignment as a challenge of the highest caliber. The objective: Spiritually uplift the family in ten minutes or less using conference talks, Preach My Gospel lessons, uplifting stories, and etc. Lessoning is most effective when it is personal, applicable, and brief.
  • Treats (v.) Something edible, desirable, and inexpensive. The purpose of a treat is to console family members as they each realize that they must wait a full seven days until the next FHE activity. It is imperitive that each treat is specifically formulated the soften this blow.

FHE this week

The gentlemen of 230 are in charge! It has been rumored that we will be doing something involving flour and nylons.

Break free from boring FHE!
